Scope of Position The Director of Laboratory Services plans, organizes, directs, and monitors the activities of the department which includes courier services and lab billing at IPMC. The Director is responsible for strategic planning in support of the MSHA Mission and Vision; developing long term and short term goals and objectives; facilities development, and evaluation; other resources allocation; and customer relations. The Director is responsible for ensuring that MSHA polices are consistently observed, and for the development and implementation of appropriate departmental policies and procedures. The Director is accountable for compliance with all pertinent JCAHO Standards, and with local, state and federal regulations. The Director is required to participate in the organization's Performance Improvement programs and to cooperate with interdepartmental reengineering projects to improve quality of service and reduce cost. The Director is accountable for practicing fiscal responsiblility by developing realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters. This position is responsible for flexing staffing to comply with established productivity standards. The Director will ensure that departmental facilities and equipment are regularly inspected and maintained in optimum operating condition. This position is responsbile for maintaining the qualified and competent staff needed to provide quality service and for monitoring the activities of reporting managers and supervisors to ensure that ongoing educational opportunities are provided and that team members are treated with dignity, fairness, and consistency. The Director is accountable for maintaining harmonious interactions between deparmental personnel and their customers. The Director is expected to set an example for all team members of commitment and loyalty to MSHA by openly supporting and participating in organizational projects and events. The Director is expected to lend technical assistance and act in a consultant role to network healthcare providers. The Director is accountable for maintaining technical expertise and for development of leadership skills through ongoing education.
Education Experience At a minimum, the Director will posses a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate clinical or management discipline, be a graduate of an accredited school of Medical Technology and passed the Board of Registry Exam. Has a minimum of six years laboratory experience, three of which were in a supervisory position. Must be licensed (or eligible) as a Laboratory Supervisor by the appropriate state.
