Scope of Position
The Nurse Intern I performs technical nursing functions as directed by the Registered Nurse. This position must be willing to work as as integral part of the health care team and is committed to continuing Education and upgrading skills. This position must work within the scope of the Nursing Department's Policies and Procedures as well as those of the hospital. This position will demonstrate competency in the care of the (circle all that apply), Neonate, Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric population (s). The Nurse Intern I has completed the fundamentals of Nursing from an accredited school. The Nurse Intern I cannot perform phlebotomy, blood sugar, or EKGs.

Education Experience
1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Must be accepted in a college of nursing program and successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course. Must have completed the first semester of clinical nursing in an accredited nursing school. An official letter of verification from an instructor must be submitted stating the status of the student. The individual must be enrolled in nursing school each semester to maintain nurse intern status or must be waiting to sit for Boards or waiting for results of Boards. An official letter of verification from an instructor must be submitted stating the status of the student.
3. Grade point average of 2.5 or above must be maintained.
4. A copy of current nursing faculty recommendation on file with job application.
5. Current BCLS certification.


Physical Requirements
Ability to handle heavy materials or patients. Physical demands greater than moderate may require knowledge in the use of appropriate equipment. Frequent bending, lifting and pulling require use of proper body mechanics at all times. Often necessary to stand long periods of time and may spend most of shift on feet. requires close mental, visual and auditory attention in all phases of patient care activities. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff and visitors displaying a smile and maintaining a pleasant attitude. Must be able to wear a respirator mask
