Scope of Position The ER Rotation Supervisor is responsible for the day to day operations of the ED and CDU. She/he serves as the primary resource person and facilitates communication and conflict resolution with patients, families, physicians, co-workers and ancillary departments. Is a role model for the department participating in interviews, policy and procedure reviews, teaches, promotes use of Saratoga and positive Press Ganey results.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Assigns patient care based on staffing levels and skill mix of the team members as well as acuity of patients • Evaluates care rendered and assists team members when needed • Supervises ED nursing and support staff during shift assigning meal breaks and in-services with specific coverage • Monitors the use of Expeditor System to achieve accurate and timely collection of data • Communicates with the House Supervisor conveying needs of the department. • Directly responsible for all tasks in the Shift Leader Book. (i.e., crash cart checks, narcotic counts, temperature checks, etc.) • Documents all call-ins in appropriate book, obtains coverage for oncoming shift, with cooperation from HS when needed. • Assures use of ED protocols by staff and provides feedback. • Coaches her/his team members on professional behavior, does performance improvement plans following through with disciplinary policy as needed, provides positive feedback often. • Reports unsafe or unusual conditions immediately working with Security, Infection Control, House Supervisor and other resources to resolve situation. • Monitors all team members or his/her rotation to ensure that patient centered care is delivered.
Education Experience Registered Nurse, must be licensed in the appropriate state. Minimum of two (2) years experience in the ED. BSN preferred. ACLS, PALS, BLS, & TNCC required.
Physical Requirements Ability to handle heavy materials or patients. Physical demands are greater than moderate and may require knowledge of the use of appropriate equipment. Frequent bending, lifting, and pulling requires use of proper body mechanics. It is often necessary to stand long periods of time and spend most of the shift on one's feet with excessive walking. Requires close mental, visual and auditory attention in all phases of patient care and activities, as well as equipment operation and procedural coordination. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians, visitors, and the management team. Must be physically fit and able to wear facial respirator (mask) when working with patients infected with tuberculosis. |
