Scope of Position The Licensed Practice Nurse and Certified Medical Assistant will work under the supervision of a Physician or Registered Nurse. The Licensed Practical Nurse and Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for nursing care patients assigned to that position. One of the primary responsibilities of the nurse is to follow assigned duties outlined by specific physicians. The nurse should possess a basic knowledge of nursing principals and procedures and demonstrate skills and techniques of good patient care. The duties and expectations will ensure a standard of patient care. As additional duties develop, the assistant should document and update the list of required responsibilities on competency check list. The physician and his/her nurse should have a partnership relationship that enhances the overall medical treatment of each patient. This position will demonstrate competency in the care of patients of infants, adolescent, adults and geriatrics, age 0 - 100+ years old.
Education Experience The Licensed Practical Nurse must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing and currently licensed to practice in the appropriate state. The Certified Medical Assistant must have completed a medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education (ABHES) and have successfully passed the Certification Exam from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
Physical Requirements Ability to handle heavy materials or patients. Physical demands greater than moderate may require knowledge of use of appropriate equipment. Frequently bending, lifting, and pulling require proper use of good body mechanics. Often necessary to stand long periods of time and may spend most of shift on feet. Requires close mental, visual, and auditory attention in all phases of patient care activities. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians and visitors. |
